School of Sanctuary

We are now a School of Sanctuary!

Over the past year we have been working very hard to make our school a very welcoming and safe environment.

We have been looking at very important topics such as, inclusion, racism, bullying and many more.

In becoming a School of Sanctuary we have focused on what it would be like to be a Refugee or an Asylum Seeker. Through case studies, workshops, interviews and poetry work the children have had a real insight into what this would be like and how would they feel if they were in this situation.

We worked extremely hard to prepare our school to welcome children who may need to seek sanctuary at St Joseph’s.

Throughout the year we put together a portfolio of evidence of all the hard work we had done. This was sent off to be assessed and we were awarded School of Sanctuary.

In July 2018 we were invited to the town hall for an award ceremony, where some of the children did a presentation and showcased their work.

We were presented with our award by the Mayor.

We are exceptional proud of what the children have achieved and our thrilled to be a School of Sanctuary.
